FREERIDE AND SKITOURING IN SVANETI with Tetnuldi, Ushguli and Hatsvali near Mestia
A land like a fairytale and one of the best freeriding and skitouring we ever experienced.
Svaneti, which is located in the main ridge of Caucasus, near Ushba and Elbrus, offers a lot of different and interesting terrain for splitboarder, snowboarder in skier. From Mestia, the biggest town in Svaneti, you can travel to the two ski resorts of Svaneti: Hatsvali and Tetnuldi. Especially in Tetnuldi are endless options for great freeriding, we will show you in this video. It is mostly alpine terrain there.
Hatsvali is the perfect spot for treeruns and pillow lines as it is located way lower than Tetnuldi.
From Mestia you can also travel by car to Ushguli within two hours. It is a very old village and the highest in Europe and located within endless possibilities for skitouring. On top of the mountains there, you will see the highest peaks of Georgia like Shkara and even Elbrus in Russia.

Great vid ! Question, is the performance of a split board compromised compared to a normal board ? Stiffness etc.
It's different, but not bad. It still feels like snowboarding, but on a different board than you're used to. Most boards have 6 connection points so you don't see a lot of slop between the two edges. On ice and groomers you'll notice more flex during turns, but on powder you will be happy.
I just picked up an amplid tour operator, but it has the amplid clips in the middle, did you switch out to spark fixie clips or something else that helps pull the halves together more?

Caucasus region is huge. Its hard to tell which is the best. Rosa Khutor for example (Sochi winter olimpics 2014) is actually in Caucasus mountains also.

This is a silly question but what is the reason for switching the two board parts while going up? I mean why am I making the tips pointing away from each other rather than keeping them together? Is there some other purpose or just to prevent hitting those two clips that are on the inner side to hold boards together once I wanna use it for riding?
I think it's so you will always have an edge on the inside of your downhill leg when you hit steeper sections
